Sir Walter Raleigh is one of the most colorful men in English history. He became a favorite of Queen Elizabeth I. He organized and sponsored expeditions to the New World. Without ever setting foot in North America he established colonies there and became an explorer himself when he searched for El Dorado in South America. He was also a writer. This book features Raleigh's role in establishing what was later refered to as the Lost Colony on North Carolina's Outer Banks and also pictures a twenty-first century view of the city of Raleigh that was named for the famous soldier, explorer, knight, and poet.
