Peter, a fictitious elderly black man of the 1980's, discovers an old trunk in his attic. In this trunk he finds many treasures which tell the story of the discovery of gold in 1799 on the John Reed farm in Cabarrus County. As Peter excitedly tells his young granson, Lil' Pete, about these treasures, flashbacks in time occur and the events come alive on the stage.
